Memphis Persian rug collections trace back to the city's late-1800s prosperity, when cotton and shipping wealth funded the kind of estate furnishing that included serious oriental and Persian holdings. Many of the antique Tabriz, Heriz, and Kashan pieces still in Central Gardens, Chickasaw Gardens, and Midtown homes were acquired during this period — and many have not been professionally cleaned in years. Fine Persians require conservative methods that off-the-shelf cleaning equipment cannot deliver: dye-stability testing, cool-water immersion, controlled drying.

Persian rugs require the most conservative cleaning approach within the oriental category. Knot densities of 300, 500, even 800 knots per square inch are common in city pieces from Tabriz, Isfahan, and Qom. Many use natural vegetal dyes that react badly to the harsh chemistry chain rug cleaners use. Silk highlights are routine in fine pieces; full-silk construction is common in the most valuable. We test every color for dye stability, use cool water, and apply conservative chemistry throughout.

Free pick-up across West Tennessee, Northwest Mississippi, and East Arkansas. Most rugs are returned within 7 days from pick-up. We provide a written estimate before any work begins.

Persian Rug Specialty

Hand cleaning for every Persian regional tradition.

Each Persian weaving region has distinct knot density, materials, and cleaning sensitivities.

Tabriz

Northwestern Iranian city rugs, known for the highest range of knot densities. Frequently incorporate silk highlights.

Kashan, Isfahan, Nain, Qom

Central Iranian city rugs — fine wool on cotton foundation, often with silk highlights. Qom is frequently full-silk.

Heriz, Bijar

Northwestern village rugs with bold geometric patterns, robust construction, and durable wool. Traditionally rust-red madder dyes.

Mashhad, Kerman

Eastern and southeastern city rugs with curvilinear floral designs. Often higher pile and softer wool.

Hamadan, Senneh

Western village and town rugs, traditionally single-wefted construction. Generally robust but older pieces require gentle handling.

Tribal — Qashqai, Bakhtiari, Baluch

Nomadic weaves with distinct symmetrical knotting and natural-dye palette. Wool foundations are common.

Memphis Persian Rug FAQ

Common questions about Persian rug cleaning in Memphis.

Where in Memphis do you offer Persian rug pick-up?

Free pick-up across Memphis, Germantown, Cordova, Collierville, Bartlett, Olive Branch, Southaven, and the wider Mid-South. We have served Memphis-area Persian rug owners continuously since 1881.

How is Persian rug cleaning different from regular oriental cleaning?

Persian rugs typically have higher knot density, often use natural dyes that can be fugitive, and frequently include silk highlights. These factors require gentler chemistry, slower wash cycles, and dye-stability testing on every color.

How does Memphis humidity affect Persian rug cleaning?

Memphis humidity is hard on Persian wool and silk. Improper drying causes mildew, dye migration, and foundation distortion. Our controlled-humidity drying room is specifically designed for the Mid-South climate.

Can you clean a silk Persian rug?

Yes — silk and silk-highlighted Persians are part of our regular work. Silk requires low-pH chemistry, cool water, and shortened wash cycles to prevent fiber damage.

How long does Persian rug cleaning take?

Most Persians take 7 days from pick-up to delivery. Antique or silk pieces may take longer because conservative methods cannot be rushed.
