When you need a documented value for an oriental or area rug — for insurance scheduling, estate documentation, divorce settlement, charitable donation, or pre-sale pricing — you need a certified appraiser whose written report will hold up under scrutiny. Fred Remmers Rug Cleaners has been valuing rugs for Memphis families since 1881, and our appraisers are recognized by insurance carriers, estate attorneys, and the IRS for documentation purposes.

An honest appraisal requires more than guessing at retail markup. We assess fiber content, knot density, regional origin, age, condition, dye stability, and current market comparables. The result is a defensible written document — not a casual price quote — that your insurance company, attorney, or accountant can rely on.

Free pick-up across Memphis, Germantown, Cordova, Collierville, and the wider Mid-South. We provide written appraisals on letterhead, with photographs, condition notes, and methodology — the documentation any insurance carrier or court will require.

Memphis Rug Appraisal FAQ

Common questions about appraisal.

Will my insurance company accept your appraisal?

Yes. Our written appraisals follow the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and are accepted by all major insurance carriers for scheduling fine-art and rug riders. We have provided documentation to Chubb, AIG, PURE, Travelers, Hartford, and most regional carriers.

What does a rug appraisal cost in Memphis?

Appraisal pricing is based on the value level and complexity of the documentation needed. Most appraisals fall between $150 and $500 per rug; very valuable or museum-quality pieces are quoted individually. We provide pricing up front before any work begins.

How long does an appraisal take?

Most appraisals are completed within two to three weeks of pick-up. Written reports include photographs, dimensions, fiber and dye analysis, regional origin, knot density, age estimate, condition notes, and a stated value with methodology. Rush service is available.

Can you appraise a rug for a divorce or estate?

Yes. We regularly provide appraisals for legal proceedings — divorce, estate settlement, probate, charitable donation, IRS documentation. Our written reports are accepted in court and by tax authorities.

Do I need an appraisal if I have a receipt?

Receipts document purchase price, not current value. Most insurance scheduling, estate planning, and resale negotiations require a current appraisal — values can change significantly over time, both up and down. A receipt is not a substitute for a documented appraisal.
