Area Rug Cleaning in Memphis, TN.

Memphis families have trusted Fred Remmers Rug Cleaners with their oriental and area rugs since 1881 — when our great-uncle Carl Hilstrom opened the first shop with a bucket of soap and a hand brush. Four generations later, we are still doing the work the same careful way, just with better drying rooms and a deeper bench of trained craftsmen.

Memphis homes pose specific challenges for fine rugs. Mid-South humidity, river-valley dust, and hot summers all wear at delicate fibers and natural dyes in ways your grandparents' rug-makers never anticipated. We have been adapting our methods to local conditions for nearly a century and a half — that's why we're still the rug cleaner Memphis families recommend to each other, generation after generation.

Whether you have a hand-knotted Persian, a Tibetan wool piece, an antique Caucasian, or a brand-new tufted rug from a department store, we treat each one with the same care: hand-pre-treatment of stains, dye-stability testing, full-immersion washing where the construction allows, and a final inspection before delivery.

Our workshop sits on Central Avenue in the heart of Midtown, a few blocks from Overton Park, so Memphis rugs are handled close to home. We clean heirloom Persians from the historic houses of Central Gardens and Chickasaw Gardens, designer wool pieces from East Memphis and Germantown, and hard-working family rugs across Cooper-Young, Harbor Town, Collierville, Cordova, and Bartlett.

Memphis humidity is hard on rugs — trapped moisture settles deep in the foundation, where it feeds moths and mildew a household vacuum never reaches. Our free pick-up runs throughout Shelby County and out into Fayette and Tipton, and because our cleaning plant is right here on Central Ave, your rug never leaves the city or gets shipped to an out-of-town facility. Call (901) 278-3704 and we'll schedule a pickup window that fits your week.
