Whether it’s in your main entryway or in the living room, we’re sure that you’re happy with your investment. Maybe you haven’t bought one yet, but are currently trying to decide if it’s a good idea or not. We’re here to tell you that you won’t regret your decision.
Fred Remmers Rug Cleaners & Oriental Rug Gallery has been provided rug cleaning services in Memphis going all the way back to 1881, so you could say that we’re pretty big fans. In our last post, we discussed a few of the top myths related to Oriental rugs and rug cleaning, and we’re going to bring up a few more in this post! If you have any questions or your area rug is overdue for a cleaning, then feel free to contact us today.
Only Clean Them When Necessary
One of the most common misconceptions pertaining to Oriental rugs is that if the rug is not visibly dirty, then there is no reason to have it cleaned. Not only is this wrong but not having your rug routinely cleaned can actually damage the fibers. A lot of dirt and debris can nestle in the rug without you even noticing. This even happens when it is placed in an area that doesn’t see very much foot traffic. The best method is to make sure that you are consistently vacuuming your rug and having it professionally cleaned annually.
Go for the Cheapest Price for Cleaning
Okay, we understand, you like to save your money. Who doesn’t? But when it comes to getting your rug cleaned, you don’t want to opt for the cheapest quote. Your Oriental rug was truly an investment, and you want to be sure that it gets treated with care and lives a long, colorful life. Rug cleaners that are charging insanely low prices are more than likely not going to do an incredible job. Basically, you get what you pay for. If you really care about the quality and appearance of your rug, then you shouldn’t worry about the cost of cleaning (however, we make sure to charge affordable prices!).
You Can Clean Them On Your Own
There a lot of rug shampooing machines out there that claim that they clean just as well as the professionals. This, however, is just simply not true. Most of these machines use high levels of moisture and if it doesn’t get properly dried, then this can cause fungus and mold to grow in the fibers. This is definitely not a good thing. Without knowing exactly what you’re doing, you may also damage your Oriental rug. To play it safe, simply trust the professionals.
Protectors Lessen Their Value
There are a couple myths surrounding rug protectors. First, many people have the assumption that when they use a protecting material, it will lessen the value of your rug. This is false. Scotch guards are a good way to protect the rug from spills or damage. However, protectors do not make your rug bullet-proof. Stains will still damage the fibers if you don’t take the proper actions following a spill. Treat the stain as soon as possible by dabbing the liquid up with paper towels and consider using a white vinegar and water mixture to prevent stains.
They Only Need Cleaned Every Few Years
Some people decide not to get their rugs cleaned for years, if ever, which is a great way to damage the rug. You spent a lot of money acquiring the rug, so you obviously want to keep it in top condition. While we’re not recommending weekly or even monthly cleanings, you do want to be consistent. We recommend having your Oriental rug cleaned at least annually. Not only does this keep the rug clean and its colors vibrant, but it’s also a health and hygiene issue. If you think about it, we shower and wash our clothes daily (or at least we should), so why would we let our rug just sit there for years collecting pollen, dirt, hair, and even insects?
